3 Tips to Make Your Local Move Go Off Without a Hitch

Moving into a new house or apartment can be an exciting but stressful time. If you have a big move coming up, you're likely already starting to pack your things as you go over all of the checklists in your mind. If you'd like to get into your new place with all of your worldly goods and your peace of mind still intact, here are three moving tips that might help.

Pack a Separate Bag for the First Day

As you pack up your stuff, stop and consider what you will actually need on moving day. Essential items like toiletries or the clothes you plan on wearing should be set aside and put into a backpack or bag. Other critical items like medicine or toys that you can use to occupy your children should also be considered. The idea is to pack everything that you might need for that first day into a separate bag away from the moving boxes so that you can go into the move confident that you have everything you need to make it through the day without having to resort to rummaging through any of the boxes after they are packed.

Label Absolutely Everything

Get yourself a permanent marker and label each box in detail as you pack the items in. Try and organize the boxes so you'll know which specific room to take them to when you get to the new residence. For example, all of your bedroom items should be clearly marked as such. If you have to mix and match items from different rooms in the same box, try and write a list of all items directly on the box itself so there is no confusion. This will let you unpack and get settled as efficiently as possible once you get to the new apartment or house.

Hire Professional Help

While there's nothing wrong with getting some family and friends to help you out on the big day, there are a lot of good reasons to hire some professional local movers for the job. A professional moving company likely has years of experience and will be able to move your items much more quickly than you would on your own or with friends. They'll be able to load up their own moving truck or van so you don't need to rent one and most moving companies also offer insurance if something goes wrong during the move.

If you have a move coming up, take steps during the packing process to make sure that you stay organized. Put critical items aside in a separate bag if you will need them on the actual moving day. Meticulously label every box as you pack to keep things organized once you get to the new residence. For more tips, talk to a company like Hollander Storage & Moving.
