If you own a curio cabinet that has a glass surface and are going to be storing it and the figurines that are displayed inside of it in a storage facility until you move to a new home across town, the following packing tips will help protect the piece of furniture and the collection of figurines from damage.

Materials

  • glass cleaner
  • lint-free cloth
  • padded fabric
  • roll of wide adhesive
  • scissors
  • roll of bubble wrap
  • packing tape
  • tape dispenser
  • label maker
  • notebook
  • permanent marker
  • cartons with dividers
  • packing foam (small pieces)
  • packing paper
  • fragile stickers

Remove The Figurines And Cover The Glass

Remove the figurines that are displayed in the curio cabinet and place them on a table. Clean the curio cabinet's glass cover with standard glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth. Secure pieces of padded fabric over each glass section with strips of wide adhesive. If there are any doors or drawers on the cabinet that are at risk of opening while the piece of furniture is being moved, use several strips of adhesive to hold them in place.

Wrap And Label The Figurines

Cut a piece of fabric to wrap around each figurine. Secure the edges of the fabric with packing adhesive. Add a layer of bubble wrap around each fabric-covered figurine. Use a label maker to create a label for the outside of each wrapped piece. Write a list of all of the pieces that are wrapped on a piece of notebook paper, as well. By doing so, you can refer to the list in order to keep track of the items that are being stored without needing to open one of the cartons that they are packed in.

Place The Wrapped Items In Cartons

Insert each wrapped item in one divided section of a carton. Fill space around or over each item with packing foam or pieces of crumpled up packing paper. Seal each carton that has figurines in it with packing tape. Label the outside of each carton with a permanent marker. If you are concerned about the cartons being handled roughly when you are ready to move the items to a storage facility, affix a couple stickers to the outside of each one that specify that fragile items are inside of them.

The items that you have packed will remain intact for as long as they are stored and you will easily be able to locate specific pieces that make up the figurine collection that you own. For more tips on packing and storing fragile items, check out http://www.allenstransfer.com.
